For current mentees of the Autism and Implementation Science Mentorship Program to present works-in-progress and workshop ideas related to grant proposals, manuscripts, etc. This information should be presented in a short talk and mentees should prepare questions for senior mentors. This is a great opportunity to receive expert advice and consultation from mentors with expertise in autism research, implementation science, systems of care, and research methods!

Thursday, January 28th, 2027, 12pm CST

This webinar, hosted by the Waisman Center Autism Research Center on Systems of Care, explores what it means to conduct research within systems rather than solely on individuals — and how that shapes everything from study design to stakeholder engagement. We'll ground the discussion in two case examples spanning the developmental spectrum: early intervention (Part C) systems for young children, and services systems supporting transition-age youth. Together, these cases illustrate how systems-level research differs from traditional clinical research, the implementation challenges and opportunities unique to each system, and how stakeholder engagement shapes the work at every stage.

Monday, February 22nd, 2027, 12pm CST

Leadership from three Autism Research Consortia — Systems of Care (Waisman Center), Behavioral Health, and Communication — come together to discuss what community engagement actually looks like in practice across different research contexts. Panelists will define key terms, unpack the spectrum of community engagement approaches (from consultation to shared decision-making), and share practical challenges commonly encountered in CBPR and community-engaged research, anchored in real project examples. The session will close with concrete strategies for overcoming these challenges and pointers to training resources for those looking to build hands-on experience with community engagement early in their careers.

Mentees will be asked to present flash talks on completed projects or publications, or present works in progress (e.g. grant proposals) that they would like feedback on.
